Take a Hike

April 2021   minute read

Next time you go for a hike, you can help save the planet as well. Korean convenience store GS25, a convenience store chain run by GS Retail Co., is upcycling used plastic bottles into hiking clothes designed by outdoor apparel maker Black Yak. The retailer is installing boxes to collect the plastic bottles at store locations and is sending the bottles, with help from local authorities, to Black Yak. Your closet and earth thank you.

Babies and Fuel

Irish convenience store Applegreen made a special announcement via its Twitter account—a birth announcement. Baby girl Ellie was born to parents Naomi and John at one of Applegreen’s locations. Ellie “made an extraordinary entrance to the world” and was delivered by the National Ambulance Service. One comment noted that the newborn should have a lifetime supply of petrol.

Farewell, Kim’s Convenience

After five seasons, the popular Canadian TV show Kim’s Convenience is coming to an end, much to the dismay of its fans. The show’s co-creators are moving on to other projects, and producers didn’t think they could maintain the show’s quality without them. The show follows the lives of a fictional Korean-Canadian family, who run a convenience store in downtown Toronto. The show has been praised for portraying the Canadian immigrant experience in an authentic and funny way. Andrea Phung, who played KimChee, called the show the best experience of his life. You can binge watch the first four seasons on Netflix. The fifth season should be available on Netflix shortly after the series finale airs on CBC on April 13.
