Training Time

February 2025   minute read

The NACS State of the Industry Talent Insights Dashboard (TID) tracks the high-level metrics that all convenience HR professionals need to know. Among many data points, the TID collects convenience-specific salaries, benefits, and recruitment and retention data.

Another way for convenience retailers to use the TID is to look at training metrics—how does your training program compare to others in the industry?

Convenience retailers have training courses that can, in some cases, reach close to 300 hours in the first 90 days, although there is a wide range and the amount of training time can vary based on the store size. Smaller stores, or those with 1 through 10 locations, spend more time on average training all levels of employees. In particular, full-time employees at those smaller stores spend an average of 98.38 hours in training the first 90 days versus an average of 62.56 across all companies. Foodservice employees spend 17.8% of their training hours on food safety, compared to 9.1% for non-foodservice employees.
